FIAT 500 USA MPG

I already have 60 or 70 miles on this tank and yet once I hit the interstate I still see the trip computer going up from 32.0 to 34.7 mpg or so. It's weird coming from a Prius into a car that does better on the highway, like a normal car... :P

I have a 2004 Prius which gets 42-45 MPG in mixed highway and city driving. I just bought a Fiat 500 Sport with 5-speed manual transmission. Driving in the usual fashion, I was pulling in 33 MPG on the same route. When I consciously tried to slowly accelerate, shift before 2000 RPM and coast for deceleration, I was able to achieve 40-42 MPG (it wasn't fun and the engine lugged a great deal). The conclusion to this story is that driving style has a huge impact on gas mileage and if you are willing to take a slower, more relaxed approach to driving, > 40 MPG is possible with the Fiat 500.

My 2000 VW Golf TDI gets about 45 mpg city and 52 on the highway and it has great handling and power. Unless a US car maker delivers this kind of efficiency, I'm not playing. They've been failing me for years and this is not exception.

You're exactly right!  Thank God for that.  Fiat would not wanna be considered
 in the same breath as a subpar make anyway.

I was reading that post on Facebook, but did not see a source...  Do we know these numbers are correct?  Also, I wonder if these numbers are for theAbnormal favorite online games, such as PC

 auto or the manual?  I would think the manual would get a bit higher.
