Suggested shift points?

sam500
Looking through the 500 DVD manual I ran into this, so I was a bit curious to get some thoughts from people here, especially those who already have the car.

"Recommended Shift Speeds"

To use your manual transmission for optimal fuel economy, it should be upshifted as listed in the following table.

Manual Transmission Recommended Shift Speeds
Units in mph (km/h)
Engine Size 1.4L

Acceleration Rate   1 to 2   2 to 3   3 to 4   4 to 5
Accel                 14 (23)       23 (37)   29 (47)   38 (61)
Cruise                 12 (19)   18 (29)   25 (40)   32 (52)

That's about right....but no fun at all.

Unfortunately, i've found that during the day, you can't see the speedomer or tach.
It's too dark; also at night its too bright, and cant find anyway to dim instrument panel.

Yeah, about right, that puts the recommended shift points for optimum mileage at about 3000rpms or so, doable yes, but fun, no.

To brighten or dim the instrument panel, use the + and - buttons that are just to the right of the speedo/tack.

That would make too much sense. Are you sure you don't have to hit shift alt and the brake pedal while pressing said buttons?
