I agree, a well written and thoughtful article indeed. I had no problem with the "fix it again Tony" remark as it was used in context of the times he was writing about, which is OK, just take it as such.

The thing that WOULD irk me are those who insist on using it for the current car without ever setting foot in one or driving it or whatever and just automatically dismiss it, based on what happened in the past without every giving it a shot.
